The Road

The road is long
The road snakes on
Down winding paths
Remaining strong
For one false step
Reveals a cliff
One small slip
And you’ll fall to your death

For the road is unforgiving
And unrelenting still
The road is never ending
Shattering your will

Wish you may, with all of your might
But it is the road you lie on tonight
Lie to yourself, and lie to survive
But the road remains
To eat you alive

For the road is unforgiving
And unrelenting still
The road is never ending
Sapping all your will

If only you had form
To fight or strike a deal
But alas there is none
Just the hearts you rend and dreams you steal
Like beacons lighting stones
Along your winding way
To an early grave
I imagine you lonely
At the end of the day
Having killed your last friend
Who stumbled onto you drunk
Somewhere out there he lies
A nameless one rotten
As the road tore him up
And left  him forgotten

For the road is unforgiving
And unrelenting still
The road is never ending
Slowly eroding your will
