Respite on the Open Ocean

Becalmed pioneer
A momentary respite
From the hurricane

I have but one wish
Even after winds and rains
None could shake me off

Your ‘scent’ has had me
From the first time I saw you
Even on the sea

So my heart recalls
And the winds kick up on cue
Another morning

High tide brings the red
This red is anyone’s dread
Except I know it

Once you make a go
The choppiest seas seem tame
Ebb and flow surfer

Brought my hang-glider
And we left our fears at home
An army within

And the topsails fill
The highest hopes dusted off
No longer becalmed
